Overview
Award-Winning Geotechnical Support
Advanced Geotechnical Solutions (AGS) provided geotechnical investigation and construction materials testing for the Boxelder Road reconstruction project, spanning several miles of roadway. The project included:
- Two phases: North and South sections
- Road widening and realignment near South Glenrock
- Significant improvements to pavement conditions, especially in the northern segment
This project was recognized as the 2024 Project of the Year by the Wyoming Engineering and Surveying Society for its contributions to public safety, sustainability, and innovation.
Key Challenges
- Rockfall hazards along the northern portion of the roadway
- Poor pavement quality in the northern section
- Variable site conditions due to terrain and alignment changes
Solutions
To address these issues, AGS provided:
- Detailed subsurface exploration and geotechnical analysis
- Construction materials testing to ensure long-term pavement performance
- Rockfall mitigation recommendations, including:
- Earthen or concrete barriers
- Flexible wire mesh systems
- Catchment ditches and drainage improvements
