Kirtley Powerline
Overview
Foundation Recommendations for Transmission Line Replacement
Advanced Geotechnical Solutions (AGS) began working on the Kirtley Powerline Replacement Project in early 2024. In March, our team visited the site near Lusk, Wyoming, to perform subsurface exploration and provide foundation recommendations for the replacement of:
- 10 powerline pole sets
- 5,015 linear feet of transmission line
AGS assessed site conditions and delivered custom foundation guidance to support the long-term performance of the new structures.
Key Challenges
Soil conditions prone to settlement and collapse, requiring special consideration for foundation support
Solutions
To address these risks, AGS recommended two foundation options:
- Direct embedment of poles into the subgrade soil
- Cast-in-place concrete piers where added stability is needed
